WeWriWa: Eu75

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. If you're in the USA, it's the weekend to observe, to remember, and be grateful to those who gave all to defend our way of life. Also, it's considered the unofficial start to summer. May you find joy and gratitude. For everyone else, I hope you're having a good weekend. :-) If you'd like to participate or read tempting morsels from other authors, please sign up--or check the linky list at: http://wewriwa.blogspot.com/

Also, check out the Snippet Sunday group on facebook.

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. Emmily is on a supply run, and Adren (the youngest looking alien) is with her this time. He's just revealed to her that they will harm bystanders to keep her from exposing them to authorities. They're now in the store, getting their supplies.

Last week ended with: I draw back my lips, attempting a fierce display of...of what? I have no idea what the hell I’m doing right now. I might be losing my tether to reality. Their assessment of my sanity is way off. I bring my hands up to my face and wipe my eyes.

The Snippet:

Apart from Adren’s questions about specific items, we shop mostly in silence. After the grocery store, we stop at a building supply to buy rope. What do they need rope for?

Three quarters of an hour into the journey home, nearly to our closest little town, Adren clears his throat. “I am…sorry,” he says.

I’m still pissed off at him, at Rael, and Kade. Pissed off at all of them.

“I am speaking the truth,” he adds.

I flip on my turn single and whip over into the parking lot at Chuck’s Watering Hole. I blurt, “Do you even know what the truth is?”

A few more lines:

There’s a flash of something in his eyes. Hurt.

His voice is low and I can’t read emotion in it when he says, “I do know what the truth is.”

Without even thinking about it, I make a noise, a disgusted sort of snort.

His eyes ignite with a fire I didn’t think he possessed.

That's it for this week. Scene change coming up. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)

The Snippet:

He says, “You are a good person, Emmily.” His voice is soft. He has lowered his head in what I now think is little more than an imitation of human expressiveness. “I mean that with all sincerity,” he adds.

What’s real and what isn’t? Will I even live through this?

I count as I breathe, willing myself to calm while I root in my purse for tissues. Then I clean up the mess on my face while I wonder how I’ll clean up the mess in my life.

I mentally add tissues to my shopping list. Bet I’ll be needing more of those.

That's it for this week. Scene change coming up. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)

Happy middle of May. Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. If you'd like to participate or read tempting morsels from other authors, please sign up--or check the linky list at: http://wewriwa.blogspot.com/

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. Emmily is on a supply run, and Adren (the youngest looking alien) is with her this time. General has once again kept Murphy at the cabin under threat of harm if Emmily tries to get away. Adren is sharing with Emmily one of their methods of controlling her.

Last week ended with: “You operate on a norm of ‘do no harm to others’. Based on that, we believe you are highly motivated to not allow innocent bystanders to be hurt or worse, when  you can prevent it by following Genrael's rules.”

The Snippet:

I can’t contain my emotion. Here comes that severe stress reaction. I grin like the village idiot as warm tears stream down my face. “Jesus Christ,” I mumble. “What other surprises do you have in store for me?”

His voice is softer now when he says, “We will sit here and wait until you are rational again. Then we will go into the store and get the items on your list. No one will get hurt, Emmily, because you are a good person.”

I try to give him my meanest look, working hard to narrow my eyes and lower my brows.

A few more lines to finish his reply:

I draw back my lips, attempting a fierce display of...of what? I have no idea what the hell I’m doing right now. I might be losing my tether to reality. Their assessment of my sanity is way off. I bring my hands up to my face and wipe my eyes.

I'd probably have moments that I'd think I was losing it, too. You?

I look up and see that number 73 in my title. The way I'm going, the entire book might be published on Blogger. I walked away from this manuscript for a month (other than a wewriwa post or two). I think I've gone through a dozen different ways to feel insecure about it. I'm back chugging away at it again.

That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)
