Welcome to my world and beyond...

A collection of snippets of the books I write and, occasionally, my life and the things that inspire my writing...

Hello. Glad you stopped by, especially since I now have my post on the correct blog. I apologize for that--and in my defense,  Blogger has gone off the rails for me. :-( I don't like the idea of switching blogs to Wordpress, but am leaning hard that way.

Back to my wewriwa post:

Happy month of May. Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. If you'd like to participate or read tempting morsels from other authors, please sign up--or check the linky list at: http://wewriwa.blogspot.com/

Also, check out the Snippet Sunday group on facebook.

*Note  If you tag Weekend Writing Warriors on facebook, we'll share the post on our page.  :-)

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. Emmily is on a supply run, and Adren (the youngest looking alien) is with her this time. General has once again kept Murphy at the cabin under threat of harm if Emmily tries to get away.

Last week ended with: However, I have been ordered to pursue a harsh type of persuasion. I am permitted to harm bystanders in order to maintain your compliance.”

The Snippet:

Well, I guess there are no gaps at all in his understanding. I try to downplay his threat. “Shoot anyone you want. I don’t know a single one of them.”

I stare at him. Might be more of a glare than a stare. Unbelievably, the corners of his lips turn up.

“Emmily, first, although I appear young, I am much older than you. Second, I need you to understand that we’ve evaluated you. You might call it a... psychiatric assessment.

A few more lines to finish his reply:

You are sane.”  He winks at me.

He actually winks at me! Like this is a all a joke! He's not done.

“You operate on a norm of ‘do no harm to others’. Based on that, we believe you are highly motivated to not allow innocent bystanders to be hurt or worse, when  you can prevent it by following Genrael's rules.”

That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)

  1. I'm sure that kind of knowledge about her is very frustrating for her when she still knows so little about them.

  2. I like that their perception of sanity depends on not harming others. But what does that say about General's order? Interesting predicament, to say the least.

  3. They use psychology as a defense weapon, which is a refreshing change from stories that leap straight into fights.

  4. Man, it's going to be hard for her to argue with that.
