WeWriWa: EU84

Welcome to a weekly post of Weekend Writing Warriors. If you'd like to check it out or give it a try, check here at wewriwa.blogspot.com

My burning thought today?  How can it be August already?!?!

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story about Emmily, a 40-something woman, and Gen Rael, an alien who crash-landed on Earth and took her hostage until his rescue arrives. Their fiery beginnings together have taken a turn. They're on the back porch together. Emmily and Gen Rael are discussing falling in love.

Last week ended with this:

“Is it? I don’t think so. Believe me when I tell you that it is falling. It’s a surrender. It makes a person fragile, damned near defenseless. If you do it with your all, you’re totally vulnerable.”

The Snippet:

His smile reaches the whole way up to his brows. “Would you have it be, ‘rising’ in love?”

I roll my eyes.  He’s still smiling, but it’s different now. His eyes narrow just a bit, enough that I know his next words will carry weight and thought behind them.

He says, “When we fall in love, is it worth anything if we do not do it with our all?”

I look away, at the flickering candle, then up at the black sky. The moment fills with awkwardness until I can’t keep from blurting out my burning thought. “What is it worth if your all isn’t enough?”

A little more if you're interested.

His voice is so soft when he answers. “We all make wrong choices, Emmily Wagner. One of the most difficult things I have learned is to forgive myself for errors in judgement.” His eyes remain focused intently on me.

Butterflies bat at my insides. I feel like I need to say something, anything. My mouth once again engages without editing first.

Oh, Emmily... Wonder what she's gonna say this time?? Thanks for visiting! Have a wonderful week!

  6. This is a very intense conversation, and I can feel some intense feelings building between them as well. I wonder what will break this scene though. Will they do something, or will someone interrupt them? I'm very invested. LOL

    1. Thanks, Fallon! It is. Where do you have to be emotionally to ask that question? Not in a good place.
