Weekend Writing Warriors July 29, 2018

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand (not a slaver--an apparent rescuer) has just told her that Earth was destroyed and her husband and children are dead.
This week's snippet picks up directly from last week's--which ended with:  Her goal to get back home was all she'd been clinging to since the filthy slavers grabbed her and dragged her off into space. Her reaction continues this week:

God above, it hurt like nothing else in her life ever had. If she could find a way outside the ship, she’d do it--step out there among the stars, minus any protective suit, and the universe could have her.
Strong hands gathered her up and held her. She didn’t have the strength to push him away. She didn’t even try to close her mind to him.  What did it matter? He was welcome to her anguish. She cried until she had nothing left.  She'd found the end.
Then, in the way of the universe that few accept until it is thrust in front of them, she discovered that the end is merely a place where the new beginning starts.

That closes this chapter of the book.
That's it for this week.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and for commenting!

“My people? My people don’t call anything…anything anymore! Your people killed them. Killed them all!” Her hands flew up to his chest and she started pounding on him. He made no attempt to stop her. When she finished pommeling him, she crumbled into more sobs.
Once again, time lost all relevance. Where she was going no longer mattered. Her goal to get back home was all she'd been clinging to since the filthy slavers grabbed her and dragged her off into space.

This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand. He's not a slaver, and he's just told her he wants to talk to her--alone. Then he delivered devastating news to her about her family ans the planet Earth.
This week's snippet picks up directly from last week's--which ended with:  However he knew, it was the truth. She crumbled.. Her reaction continues this week:

He grabbed her and held her while she cried. She didn’t know how long. Weakness turned to exhaustion, and finally she just wanted to die. Everything  and everyone she loved was gone, and she needed to be with them.

She tried to lie down on the floor. He held her. She tried to push him away, but his hold stayed fast. Finally he spoke, his soothing voice wrapping around her like a flannel quilt. “I can take away this pain, this… what your people call heartache.”

Hmm, be careful about agreeing to let someone remove painful memories...or any memories for that matter. Or maybe he really cares about her and wants to take away her pain??? :-)
FYI about this story. Since Veronica Scott very kindly offered advice on what romance readers might and might not stand for. It isn't SFR. It is SF with R elements. There is no HEA, but it does end on a happier uptick that will (hopefully) make readers say "I was hoping that was going to happen!". There will be a sequel. And SPOILER ALERT--Jobe, the dog, will be in it. :-)
That's it for this week.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and
