Weekend Writing Warriors October 28, 2018

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

Happy end of October! And if you celebrate it, I hope you have a fabulous Halloween.
It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand--who seems to have rescued her from the slavers. His race can communicate mind to mind.  Creative punctuation ahead.  Last week's snippet ended with:
"
When his arms came around her and pulled her close, she leaned back against him."
This week's snippet continues from there:

A little voice in the back of her mind, the voice of human reason, told her to tell him to stop, to go away, but she was weak.
His voice purred, "Tomorrow we will dock at a waystation then you and I will visit the near world. There we will enjoy the comfort of things not available on a ship or a station."
When she answered, even to her own ears, she sounded like she was coming onto him. "Things like what, Theusand?"
He leaned close, his breath warm in her ear as he whispered, "Fresh food, soap, water--lots and lots of water. A sweet drink that relaxes the mind, and a large, soft bed."
She was responding to the word "bed" rolling off his tongue. She should stop it, but her mind was someplace it had never been. God forgiver her; she liked it there.

That's it for this week.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and for commenting!

  1. Just when she thought all will be fine now it's time to go into the water.

  2. The fresh food, soap, and water definitely sound good

  3. After all she's been through, it would be hard not to want those comforting things. Great snippet!

  4. Hmmm, now I'm wondering if he's exerting some subtle mind control over her. She seems so beguiled by the things he mentioned, which seems odd as she's suffered such a huge loss recently, but then again...I love a story that leaves me thinking so much! Great snippet!

  5. Mmm, what a delicious snippet on this Sunday afternoon. Love the imagery and the dialogue. Very nicely written!

  6. If its mind control like veronica mentioned then I think I'm caught because all of that sounded alluring. By the end of the snippet I was willing to go anywhere with him.

  7. I was thinking along the same lines as Veronica. They do have a mental connection, so is there some influence going on?

  8. Such an alluring conversation. He's lulling her into being relaxed and open to his desires. Wow.

  9. Ooh - she shouldn't relax yet. Has she already forgotten her husband?

  10. Ah, she's being seduced by soap and water?

  11. I can totally understand being seduced by the prospect of soap and unlimited hot water when you're feeling grubby. This guy knows how to woo a girl!

  12. I agree with everyone else, it would be hard to resist - either the prospect of soap and water, or this rather hunky alien! I can't believe he'd have saved her if he wasn't a good guy!

  13. It would be hard to resist those creature comforts. I hope he only has good intentions toward her.

  14. The voice of reason isn't winning with her. Might as well enjoy, I guess! ;)

  15. What a great scene, Teresa . . . her half-hearted protest, her longing to give in. Sigh . . .

  16. Great imagery. She's being seduced and she seems not to care. I'm curious to see where this goes.

  17. I might have missed a few snippets, but last one I read I thought she was weary of him and didn't fully trust him. With that being said, I loved this snippet. Is she really falling for him or is there something else going on? What about him? Is he tricking her or...?
