Weekend Writing Warriors April 30, 2017

Hello fellow Warriors (and Snippeteers)!  Happy end of April. Time truly is flying!

It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by before 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. (We check signups to remove links when we don't find a wewriwa post--to save our participants from clicking on empty links--so please have it live by 9:00 Sunday morning--eastern USA). Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
This week's snippet from *name change alert* Dhor'en Sands (it might still change again):  Lily is following Theusand. They've just gone down a set of steps. It's the first time (in weeks) she's leaving the floor she's been on since Lord Sand rescued her from the slave fight ring in the belly of the ship.  The last line last week was.
There was no set leading up, so they went the only direction they could, down."
Here we go...
At the bottom, after Theusand did his magic hand thing to open the door, they stepped  into a hallway just as gray as the stairwell, but at least better lit. A few people walked by, their gazes dropping toward their feet as they passed. Great. She was with the man who scared them into floor-ogling  She wished she could blend in with the walls.
“Stand tall. Become your destiny,” he said.
Destiny? What was the almighty Lord Sand talking about now? Memories of Ben and the girls jumped to the forefront, reminding her that her precious little family had always been, and still were her true destiny.
What works and what doesn't? I'm grateful for every bit of feedback you share.

  1. She's trapped in a world that's incomprehensible to her, with memories as sharp as razors to keep her company.

  3. Great snippet! I love her internal dialogue! And I'm so curious as to how Theusand will react to her thoughts about her family.

  4. Wonderful snippet. You gave us the whole picture in a few sentences. And then her thoughts; can they be hidden from the Lord Sands?

  5. I like the way her family is always right there in her mind, giving her strength. Loved the snippet and of course I'm wondering what's next!

  6. Interesting. As powerful as he is, he expects her walk as his equal. This speaks of a dynamic (future) power couple.

  7. First he wants her trailing behind, now he's giving her a pep talk? What is up with this guy? Just love all the twists and turns of this story!

  8. She's focused on her family, but the question is what does he expect her destiny to be? Not the same thing, I'll bet!

  13. Love your new word, "floor-ogling." I also love that Theusand's words--were they meant to intimidate?--have given her a focus. I think she's going to come out of this okay.

  21. He must be loving her thoughts right now! He's pretty unhelpfully cryptic, isn't he?
