Weekend Writing Warriors April 29, 2018

It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by before 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand. He's not a slaver--and he saved Lily, sort of.  He's Dhor'en; they communicate mind to mind.
The slaver, Dev Areen is demanding that Lily (he claims as his property) be returned to him. So now we have a 'test' to prove that Lily can communicate via mind to mind, therefore cannot be enslaved.

Last week's snippet ended with:
He beat me, he threatened sexual assault. He lifted me off of the ground by my hair. He…

We continue from there:

"Her painful thoughts halted. Everyone and everything fell away from the moment, just her and Lord Sand remained in her mind. Soothing warmth flowed through her, stilling her trembling.
Theusand said, “Enough, Lily. A poor choice on my part. It was not about what he did to you; it was about demonstrating you can communicate without saying the words out loud.”
Then her head was crowded again. The Sand’s tone shifted to stern when he continued. “Captain, I am sure this demonstration met all requirements of legal proof.

That's it. All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and

for commenting!

This week's excerpt. The Sand speaks first:

"Her head swam; was this really happening?  Whatever fragile tether to reality she had left was failing.
She concentrated on breathing, filling her lungs until her chest hurt. Then she exhaled, measured and even.  Her senses returned and images flashed through her mind.
Her words were silent, though her sobs were real enough as she narrated what she’d endured at the hands of the mad-slaver. “He beat me, he threatened sexual assault. He lifted me off of the ground by my hair. He…

This week's excerpt. The Sand speaks first:

Standing? You dare question my authority? I am Theusand Dhor. And Lily of Earth is of the I-tellekt.” He looked the poor Captain in the eye; the man appeared to shrink away from the contact.
Lily had been there before, unable to pull her own gaze away;  she understood.
Theusand said, “Welcome to Lily’s mind.”

Just like that, the two men crowded her thoughts.  The Sand words were a silent command. “Lily, tell the Captain what Dev Areen did to you.”

Last week's snippet ended with: "There was no mistaking the fear when the Captain raised his face and said, “The terms were set by and agreed upon by His Eminence, Lord Milsand Dhor”.”
This week's excerpt:

An emotional wash slammed Lily--first Theusand’s disbelief, then his anger. But it was gone as fast as she’d sensed it, giving her no  chance to understand the ramifications of this exchange. Who was this other Dhor--Milsand?  Someone she already feared.
The Sand’s voice was a low growl when he said, “He’ll not take the female. Contract or not, it is illegal in the Dhor Klavven Dominion to enslave I-tellekti.”

“With all respect, honored one, this could cause an even greater incident than when you had him placed in lock-up without having standing to do so.”

The Sand's anger washed Lily again. Her legs shook so hard they barely held her.
