Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!
It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented
writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week,
participants sign up HERE
at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or
unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday,
EST. Then we visit each
other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a
solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor". Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is in a room on the ship with a portal she can see the outside through. She's recalling Earth's alien invasion. *She is with Theusand--he is the man with clawed hands. Last week's snippet ended with: Clawed hands came from behind to rest on her shoulders."
This week's snippet continues from there:Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE

She swiped at her tears, as if she could
hide that she’d been crying…again. At least he had the decency not to attempt
consoling her by doing the man thing—trying to fix everything so the tears would
stop.
One of those bordering on hysteria
snickers escaped her. Unbelievable.
It took an alien somewhere out in the
boondocks of space to understand the way her human emotions worked. Sometimes women
just needed to cry. Why couldn’t human men understand that?
Ben always did it too, as if he felt the
world was off-kilter unless she was happy.
The
twisted reality of the moment hit her. Thinking
of Ben trying to stop her from crying was causing a new wave of sobs.
Incredibly touching in outer space. Teresa, you have the touch to create moving tales in another world. Lovely and moving. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAll the emotions are right there on the surface, her pain, her loss and frustration . . . and her strength! Nice job, Teresa.
ReplyDeleteVery emotional snippet.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Most men don't know how to be empathetic and just Listen. They need to fix things. I think they're hard-wired that way - at least all the men in my life are and I live in a testosterone laden household.
ReplyDeleteI like how the clawed hands image contrasts with his empathy. This snippet is full of contrasts, like humor/grief, which makes it very effective.
ReplyDeleteClaws and all, he seems lovely and kind. Just what she needs right now.
ReplyDeleteAww, so many layers of sadness and grief for her! Very well done snippet and I hope Theusand is going to continue to be a comfort, not a problem.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. But reminds me that sometimes we find exactly what we need at the time in the most unlikely of places.
ReplyDeleteSo intense, and then she remembers Ben. Theusand must be swamped with her sorrows.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess that does it, then. I need to find me an alien boyfriend! :D Great snippet, Teresa!
ReplyDeleteYep. Even amid the hysteria and adventure of alien abduction, there must be quiet moments of grief, such as this.
ReplyDeleteSo much emotion here, I love it!
ReplyDeleteA great emotional snippet, she's so right, most men don't realise that sometimes we just need to let it all out with a good cry!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lot of emotion! Nice snippet.
ReplyDeleteSome things can be fixed, others can't. It's good that he realizes that. Great way to show how grief comes in waves.
ReplyDeleteShe's so right about women just needing a good cry sometimes. And it is ironic that the alien understands that. Of course he can read her thoughts, so has a better understanding of her in general. Hopefully she will gain some peace from this. Great, emotional snippet!
ReplyDeleteI can feel her loss and frustration. Great snippet.
