This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story.
To read a compilation of all snippets posted for this story, click Here: Emmily Unbound, Chapters 1 & 2  Emmily, the main character, has lost pretty much everything in the last twelve months: her marriage, her parents, her job, and her house. She and
her dog, Murphy, have moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania into an old, remote, hunting camp her parents willed to her. On her first day there, along a desolate road she's been forced at gunpoint to haul a wounded man to her house.

This week, I'm skipping ahead a few chapters.  Emmily is making a supply run. She went to the secondhand store and purchased some clothing for the group. Now she and Kade are shopping fr groceries. Note* The reference to Mr D.H. is short for Mr. Dickhead. It's a thing that Emmily does many times in the book --calls men "Mr." followed by whatever word currently fits the way she feels about them.

Last week ended with this:

As far as Kade? He’d probably look nice in anything though. Lucky mate of his…

Now, the  snippet:

Women are eyeing him and, judging by their expressions, seem to have no problem with the dirty uniform pants.

His long blond hair would be a draw to a woman who likes that sort of thing. I don’t think I do. I’m pondering hair length, picturing Kade's boss, General, with close-cropped hair like my husband wore.

Nope. No matter how I try to make it work, General’s hair looks so right on him. Just another reason to not like the guy since I’m definitely a short-hair kind of girl.

And while I'm tallying things that don't work for me, General is kind of tall for my liking, way taller than Jason.

Kade looks my way, pulling me from my thoughts of Mr. D.H. He says, “Emmily, come here.”

That's the snippet. If you'd like to read a few more to complete her thought, read on.

He’s holding a bunch of bananas and his brows are furrowed. When I get to him, I lean close and say, “They don’t have bananas where you’re from? What country do you live in?”

He blushes and starts to stutter, trying to come up with some kind of explanation, I suppose.

The working blurb for this story follows:

After losing everything that bound her to her ordinary and happy life, Emmily has one plan: move to the mountains. Oh, and never give her heart away again.
But everything goes sideways when a UFO crash-lands on the next ridge over, and on a desolate road she’s waylaid by men demanding help for their injured ‘General’. He’s confused, bleeding, and sweet Lord, good looking—even while sneering and growling at her.
Fleeing an ambush meant to kill him, Gen Rael is gravely injured when his ship crashes on Earth. The human woman his crew captures to aid them is a confounding mixture of terrified, defiant, and beautiful. A female distraction is the last thing his hindered mission can afford. But this Emmily woman is cutting through the steel wall he keeps around his heart.
Despite being their hostage, Emmily isn’t blind to the peril they’re in: there’s a threat coming from the stars, and it’s lethal to all of them, including her.
And her simple plan to never-ever fall in love again? Looks like that’s in peril too…

That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)

Last week ended with this:

Oh, and he might think the glitter is just not a good look on him either.

Anyway, the clothes are a start. Maybe these guys will be gone before they need more.

Now, the  snippet:

The grocery store is next. I didn’t have time to finish my list so Kade and I are shopping on the fly. He’s sorting through the produce. Damn,  he looks amazing in the pullover he just changed into. Dark blue. Manly. I snicker, picturing the pink shirt again. As far as Kade? He’d probably look nice in anything though. Lucky mate of his…

That's the snippet. If you'd like to read a few more to complete her thought, read on.
