This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. Emmily is on a supply run, and Adren is with her this time.
Last week's snippet ended with: " I’ll never get this Civil War love story written.
I inhale deep, then purse my lips and blow through them as I count. Something Kade said before we left pops up in my brain. It was when I was trying to pronounce that weird word. Anyway, he explained that he’s searched our language archives and came up with this—his best explanation for what they had no time to grab: bug out bags.
Not good. This is starting to sound like spy games or black-ops stuff.
Let me stop here. I need to admit it and accept it. They aren’t black ops, at least not from Earth. If I’m being truthful to myself, I connected the dots on the first day, about five minutes after Kade held a weapon to my head and told me they needed help.
Read on to finish the scene:
Definitely when I saw General’s eyes; that sealed it. All that talk on the radio about UFOs, and Linus asking me if that’s what I came up to the mountains for…
My heart starts to race again.
I look over at Adren who is fiddling with the radio and looking around at scenery. He pulls a toy gun out of his pocket and checks it. Another smaller one slides down from his sleeve.
I gulp down rising fear. They’re not toys. And he’s not human. Just like the rest of them.
I, Emmily Wagner, have made first contact with outer-space aliens.
That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)
