Weekend Writing Warriors July 1, 2018

Happy July! Time is flying. Seems like just yesterday we were digging out from April snows.( I thought that maybe in this sweltering heat and humidity, remembering that nice spring snow would help people feel cooler) :-)
It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand. He's not a slaver, and he's just told her he wants to talk to her--alone...
This week's snippet picks up directly from last week's--which ended with heartbreaking news for Lily... That Earth has been destroyed, along with her mate (husband Ben) and her children. Her reaction:

It was a lie, a flat out lie. “How could you know such a thing? I don’t believe you. Your mind can’t cover that distance. There’s no way you can know something like that. No way…” Her voice trailed off into mumbling until the argument died in a sob. The look on his face… However he knew, it was the truth. She crumbled.

That's it for this week.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and for commenting!

I've skipped a few paras from last week. They are in the meditation room (she calls it the star room because there are small portals she can see outside through). This scene delivers heart-breaking news to her . (Teauche- Brigard is his home world)
She asked him where home was. He has just made a line of sight with his arm and finger.  Lily is looking at a cluster of stars--and she speaks first.

“That’s Earth? When will you return me to my home, to my family?”

He lowered his arm, and his voice was soft when he answered, “Lily, that is Teauche-Brigard.”

“But, where is Earth, my home?”

He slid back his hood and made eye contact with her. While he gently squeezed her shoulders, he returned his gaze out the small window at the black velvet heavens. “Earth is gone.  Destroyed. Your family--your mate and children--are gone; your life there is over. Teauche-Brigard is your new home.”

What??! Next week we'll hear her reaction to this utterly devastating news.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and for commenting!

Weekend Writing Warriors June 17, 2018

This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand. He's not a slaver, and he's just saved her again from being taken by  Dev Areen--a high-ranking slaver on board the transport ship. Now that it's over, she's realizing a new emotion...

Last week's snippet ended with (referring to Theusand):
She had to admit it; it was affection.
Please forgive creative punctuation used to stay within wewriwa guidelines. We continue from there:

And why wouldn’t she feel that for him? He was still rescuing her on a near-daily basis.  Then again, give her a gun or a damned Louisville slugger, and she’d save her own life.

At the other end of the hall, they exited through a featureless door, twin to the one they’d entered through before their stroll turned into a terror-inducing confrontation.
While they climbed the steep, metal-grid  steps returning them to the deck above, Theusand's halting words felt weird, almost apprehensive as they popped into her mind. “Lily, we will go to the meditation room. I want to talk with you... without other ears or minds listening.”

Her legs quivered. Was it climbing stairs after months of not doing so, or was it a response to his wish to talk alone with her? Didn't matter; she had some things she wanted to talk about, too.

That ends the chapter.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and

Happy June! It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop.             This week's snippet is from "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand. He's not a slaver-- he saved Lily, sort of.  He's Dhor'en; they communicate mind to mind.
The slaver, Dev Areen is demanding that Lily (he claims as his property) be returned to him. Theusand just proved that Lily can communicate via mind to mind, therefore cannot be enslaved.

Last week's snippet ended with (speaking about Dev Areen):
His evil grin returned, but this time it looked forced. He spun on his heel and then strutted away.
Please forgive creative punctuation used to stay within wewriwa guidelines. We continue from there:

Theusand's inner voice told her it was time to go. Thank God it was over.
When she tried to move, her trembling legs failed her. He reached out and grasped her as she headed toward the floor then lifted her up to standing.  Leaning against him for support, she closed her eyes when his hands came up to the sides of her face.
“Calm, Lily, he can't get through me to harm you.”  His words were infused with such... such tenderness.
Warmth spread through her body and her shaking stopped. Gratitude suffused her, gratitude and something else. She had to admit it; it was affection.

It's the first time she's felt that for him. Here, it starts. That's it. All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and
