Hello

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. To read a compilation of all snippets posted for this story, click Here: Emmily Unbound, Chapters 1 & 2 Emmily, the main character, has lost pretty much everything in the last twelve months: her marriage, her parents, her job, and her house. She and her dog, Murphy, have moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania into an old, remote, hunting camp her parents willed to her. On her first day there, along a desolate road she's been forced at gunpoint to haul a wounded man to her house.
It is what it is. The worst is that someone will be alarmed by his appearance and call the cops. Problem solved, at least for me.
I deliberate. The second-hand store is the better of the two to be seen in with him wearing his grubby duds. We go inside. Forty-five minutes later, after sorting through rack after rack, we have three bags stuffed full of assorted clothes for all of them.
I can't stop grinning while I picture the nice sweatshirt I got for General. Women’s 3X should fit. If his shoulders weren’t so wide, I could have gotten him a lavender one in 2X, but the pink one will do just fine.
Pink—a lot of men are fine with it, right? And he does seem like a manly-man, comfortable and secure in his masculinity and some other things too—like his arrogance and his complete lack of personality. He could refuse to wear it though, because of all those flowers printed on the front.
That's the snippet. If you'd like to read a few more to complete her thought, read on.
Oh, and he might think the glitter is just not a good look on him either.
Anyway, the clothes are a start. Maybe they’ll be gone before they need more.
That's the snippet.
If these guys aren't from Earth, the sweatshirt probably won't bother him, as they won't know anything about our socially-ingrained gender norms. Nice snippet!
ReplyDeleteI laughed at your description of the pink sweatshirt. I'm sure he'll love it!
ReplyDeleteInteresting snippet, taking another wild twist and turn here!
ReplyDeleteInteresting on how our norms - pink is not for men sort of thing - will be handled by these 2. Although - everyone loves glitter :-)
ReplyDeletetweeted.
Seems like she has a wicked sense of humour showing through. Has she clued in yet that they aren't human and likely won't understand Earthly norms?
ReplyDeleteThe flowers make the scene! I would love to see the follow up where he is wearing the shirt, someone teases him and how he reacts to it.
ReplyDeleteRevenge is sweet. It's too bad he probably won't get the joke.
ReplyDeleteWell if they didn't stand out before, they will certainly stand out now. :-D
ReplyDeleteSince they aren't from earth the shirt may be ok. I think she enjoyed the idea of him in pink with glitter.
ReplyDeleteI suppose this could be considered passive-aggressive revenge on her part. But I agree, unless they are aware of human norms, they won't realize they are being made fun of. Fun snippet!
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Made me chuckle. He'll definitely make a fashion statement. lol
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see if these aliens have the same attitudes toward flowers, pink, and glitter.
ReplyDeleteI apologize for being so late commenting on your post. NaNoWriMo got in the way.
