This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. Emmily is having an argument with Adren about General.

Last week's snippet ended with: " He's quiet and his expression is thoughtful. “He is a good man. He has accepted you.”

     “Accepted me? Me?”

The Snippet:

Adren blows off my query into just what General’s acceptance means. He’s already moved onto the next thing. “If you met his brother, you would thank the Mother of Stars it is Genrael here with you and not Zoden.”

“Zoden? How is he different from General?”

Adren rolls his eyes. “He is cruel, for starters.”

“And you don’t think General has a cruel streak?”

“No! Why do you suggest such a thing!”

Read further to finish the scene.

“Call it a hunch. I know for a fact I’ve seen a streak that, okay, maybe it wasn't cruel yet, but it sure wasn't nice. And before you say anything, he’s used it on me.”

“When? There was never a time that General was…”

Here it comes, the head cocking to the side.

“Never a time when he was harsh with you that he did not have a valid reason.”

“Adren, we should agree to disagree.”

“No. I cannot accept that you believe he is cruel. Harsh, strict, yes, but by necessity.”

Wow. They've brainwashed this kid. He worships that man. I hate to disappoint him, but my opinion isn’t going to change. Ever. I say, “Hey, maybe we can talk about this again sometime.”

He’s quiet, sulking perhaps? Oh well, it’s a big lesson, and I’m surprised he hasn’t already learned it. You can never force someone to agree with an opinion. Like respect, people must come to it on their own.

That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. She and her dog, Murphy, have moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania into an old, remote, hunting camp her parents willed to her. On her first day there, along a desolate road she's been forced at gunpoint to haul a wounded man and his 'crew' to her house.A week since the abduction has gone by. She's making a supply run. Kade--one of the aliens--has gone with her to make sure she doesn't contact authorities to alert them to alien presence.Last week ended with them arguing over what she wants to buy at a sporting goods store. Now there's word confusion.

     The snippet ended with:

“No bat, Emmily. You just admitted to me—to the man sworn to protect Genrael—that you want the bat to use on him.”

      “I did not say that!”

“You did. When you said you were afraid of guns. The baseball bat is a good, Genrael purpose weapon.”

        We continue from there:

I drop my chin and shake my head as I laugh. The ridiculousness of this entire conversation. “Listen to what you just said and dig deeper for the meaning.”

He cocks his head, one way, then another. It takes a minute for his brows to go up. He blushes. “I see. Emmily, I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Still, I cannot allow you to buy a weapon.”

      I give up.

“You will not have to worry about protecting yourself from someone arriving uninvited; you have us now.”

A few more lines if you'd like to continue this thought:

“You know, Kade, I just might have to use it to defend myself from all of you. I don’t know. Maybe you’ll want to kill me after my usefulness is over.” I say this sort of tongue-in-cheek, but sort of not.

He inclines his head, and peers at me through lowered eyes. “Emmily, we will not harm you.”

     “Right.”

     “You do not believe me?”

“Kade, you don’t believe me, that I planned on getting a ball bat before you all forced your way into my life.”

He lays his hand on top of mine. When I look at him, he gives it a squeeze. “We appreciate what you do for us. There is no plan to harm you for any reason. But we do need you if we are ever to see our home again.”

Kade seems pretty sincere... Should she believe him?

The working blurb for this story:

After losing everything that bound her to her ordinary and happy life, Emmily has one plan: move to the mountains and never-ever give her heart away again.

But everything goes sideways when a UFO crash-lands nearby, and on a desolate road she’s waylaid by men demanding help for their injured ‘General’. He’s confused, bleeding, and sweet Lord, good looking—even while sneering and growling at her.

Fleeing an ambush meant to kill him, Gen Rael is gravely injured when his ship crashes on Earth. The human woman his crew captures to aid them is a confounding mixture of terrified, defiant, and captivating. A female distraction is the last thing his hindered mission can afford. But this Emmily woman is cutting through the steel wall he keeps around his heart.

Despite being their hostage, Emmily isn’t blind to the peril they’re in: there’s a threat coming from the stars, and it’s lethal to all of them, including her.
And her simple plan to never-ever fall in love again? Looks like that’s in peril too…

That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)
