Happy 2019! Do you have goals in mind? I wonder how many writers have resolutions that involve writing.
It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented
writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week,
participants sign up HERE
at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or
unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday,
EST. Then we visit each
other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a
solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from my WIP, "The Sands of Dhor". Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand--who seems to have rescued her from the slavers. His race can communicate mind to mind. He is taking her to the "Donminion" he is from. Theusand has just taken a bath (a luxury for space-faring races who luck into an on-world stop) and he's gone to find Lily. She's with a woman, Leese, who's an old friend...maybe more. (hint:family). Creative punctuation ahead.

He slid on the slippers next to the
tub then he wrapped the thin, ankle-length drying-cloth around his waist. Last,
he threw a knitted shawl over his shoulders. Following the
direction of the two women’s voices, he soon enough was outside the chamber
they occupied. He stopped just out of sight to absorb their good-natured
chatter.
Leese's voice cooed, “A nice pair, you and Theusand are. Did
you ever imagine you would meet Lord Sand and that he would take you to his
heart?”
There was silence, so long that he started
to feel uncomfortable—and they didn’t even know he was listening since he’d carefully
guarded his thoughts so neither would sense him near.
Lily’s answer cut deep. “Theusand, me?
Probably not two names meant to be uttered in the same breath.”
Oh, that would hurt. Though I think Lily is still trying to process everything she's been through and learned.
ReplyDelete:-) It hurt, but he'd never let on. Lily is getting there. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteOoh! Ouch. Mind you, I'm not sure quite what he expects, having destroyed her home world and everyone she knew and all that...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Teresa.
Ouch indeed. His expectations are odd. He's from a different culture, but in spite of that, he wants the same devotion she felt for her mate on Earth. He's experienced her memories and the emotions in them.
DeleteThanks for visiting. :-)
Yeah, that would hurt to hear. Not that I would really blame her from the other bits I've read.
ReplyDeleteHe's been a roller coaster ride for her. He's nice then he's not, he's nice then he's not...
DeleteThanks for visiting. :-)
They say eavesdroppers never hear good about themselves. That's what he gets. I want to read how he feels about what she says. I hope that comes next week.
ReplyDeleteYep. That is actually similar to what he tells himself in the next para. :-)
DeleteThanks for visiting, Diane. :-)
Ouch!!! Those who eavesdrop never hear anything good about themselves. (I wrote this before I read Di's post above - Like minds!). Poor guy. That's quite a blow.
ReplyDeleteSo true! :-) Thanks for visiting!
DeleteDelicious tale and it probably gets worse. My lovely friend, its always a serious problem.
ReplyDeleteRegarding your help, if you might do the deed for me, I'd be so pleased. What a time for me with a new computer and I'm still learning. Thanks a bunch, dear friend.
It does get worse. :-) Life can't be too easy for our tortured characters, right?
DeleteNot a problem to do the deed. Hugs...
Eavesdroppers never like what they hear, even in alien scifi settings LOL. I foresee a lot of complications ahead for everyone! Great snippet, kept me on the edge of my chair...
ReplyDeleteYep. Expression is god in any universe. ;-) Thanks for visiting! Hugs...
DeleteTalk about a complicated relationship! I don't blame her for being...hesitant?
ReplyDeleteHesitant is one way to look at it. Half crazy is another. Imagine having someone poking around in your mind. :-)
DeleteThanks for visiting!
So, he hasn't won her over yet. Not too surprising, considering that from her point of view he's the one carrying her away from her home and family.
ReplyDeleteYep. But oh my, having the ability to close her mind off from certain memories... Thanks for visiting, Ed!
DeleteSo, she's not enthusiastic! He shouldn't count his chickens!
ReplyDeleteTrue! Never underestimate a human. :-) Thanks fr visiting!
DeleteEavesdroppers often hear things they would rather they hadn't. But given Lily's story, I can understand that she'd be reluctant to admit any feelings she might have. I'm very interested in what comes next! Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteYeah. Right now she's a mixed up mess. :-) Thanks for visiting, Jenna!
DeleteHe still has a bit of wooing to do. Enjoyed the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! His type of wooing isn't patient enough to wait for her to fall for him. Thanks for visiting, Elaine!
DeleteWoo! I love Lily's sass! :D
ReplyDeleteShe can be sassy. Sometimes she doesn't have a choice, though.
DeleteThanks for visiting, Amy!
Sorry I'm late getting here - day didn't unfold as I expected.
ReplyDeleteGreat snippet - love the uncomfortable silence.
Tweeted.
No worries, Daryl. Some days are just like that. :-) Thanks for visiting! Hugs...
DeleteEavesdroppers rarely hear good about themselves, do they?
ReplyDeleteNo they do not! :-) Thanks for visiting!
DeleteOh, ouch! This is going to complicate things for sure.
ReplyDeleteAnother complication. There are many. :-)Thanks for visiting! Hugs...
DeleteMany of the characters in Team Netherworld's stories are telepathic too. It's tricky shielding one's thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting us at Naughty Netherworld Press
Hi Cara. :-) It is tricky.
DeleteThank you for visiting here!
That will probably hurt his feelings. But is she in denial about how she feels about him?
ReplyDeleteShe might be. I'm not sure she knows how she feels right now. :-)
DeleteThanks for visiting! :-)
Are we having fun or what, Teresa. I do hope you have chance to check out my Lulu. Always fun stories come out with humor and more.
ReplyDeleteWe are, my friend! Hugs... :-)
