Max and Charlotte return for the explosive conclusion of the “By Moonlight” series . . . and the stakes have never been higher!

He’s the Promised One
A Mobster’s attack dog turned legitimate business powerhouse, Max Savoie is the reluctant leader of New Orleans’ shapeshifter clan. They’ve kept to anonymous shadows, working and living unnoticed by the human world until their new Shifter King’s past draws dangerous outsiders who threaten all.

She’s the Protector
A fiercely determined NOPD detective, Charlotte Caissie has sworn to defend her beloved city and her unborn child from both criminals and otherworldly factions at war. While standing boldly at the side of her mate/husband, secrets from the past return to shake the foundation of her beliefs.

They have a Problem
Walking a marital tight rope between opposite worlds, Max and Cee Cee’s paths place truth and trust at odds when outside threats force enemies to become allies. The time to take a stand for their family and their future is at hand. Time to rise together for the survival of all they love!

“Every delicious word on the page exhilarates with a sensuous ferocity. Hopelessly addicted.” – NYT bestselling author, Darynda Jones

EXCERPT

“You’re afraid of him.” Statement not condemnation.

“Hell yes, I am.” That explosive claim was unexpected. “We all are. That’s why we’re still alive. We knew when to bow. And we know when to fight. He doesn’t. He only knows his way. He won’t compromise for the sake of family or survival. Those things don’t matter to him. Control matters. And he won’t stop until he has it in his fist again.”

“And you’re in his way.”

Cale fell silent for a long moment, staring out into that shadowed darkness as if it held his fate. Finally, quietly, he added, “It’ll come down to him and me. We’ve always known that. I’ve never had more at stake . . . and I’ve never been weaker.”

Max regarded him for a long, uncomfortable moment, reading more into that statement than Cale meant to reveal. “Perhaps what you’ve lost isn’t your strength but your confidence.”

Silence, then a gruff, “What do you know?”

“Not as much as I thought, apparently.” As Max shrugged and turned toward the house, Cale stopped him with a quiet plea.

“I need your promise. You pride yourself on your word once given.”

“I do, yes.”

Cale didn’t turn, his rigid stance conveying uneasy tension. “Protect them—Kendra and my brothers’ mates. My father’ll come for me and my brothers. He’ll want to wipe every trace of us from our line, so the next generation won’t make us martyrs. He’ll purge all who defied him. No one’ll be spared. If my brothers and I lose this battle, do whatever needs to be done to keep them alive.”

“It won’t come to that, Cale.”

He turned, fierce stare locking on Max’s, incendiary in the dim light. “You don’t know him.”

“I do,” Max argued softly. “I understand monsters. I’ve confronted them almost every day of my life. They can’t be bargained with. They can’t be trusted to keep their word. They have no honor, no empathy, no loyalty. There can be no compromise or sacrifices now. We all win, or we all lose. All of us. I promise I will stand with you and yours to the last of us so all can be free because I refuse to allow evil to win anything else away from me.”

MY BOOK REVIEW
What a ride! This book is a glorious page-turner.

First, I have to say that I read this out of order. I've read a couple other books from this series.--also out of order. But, despite it being the last installment of the By Moonlight series, I knew the characters--a testament to how well-written they are that they endure in the reader's mind.

Nancy's prose is delicious. The details are there, but so smoothly infused into the story that you don't even think about it. You just realize you are there, in the story, with the marvelous characters. You can feel the heat of a muggy New Orleans day, the breeze crossing the veranda of an old plantation house, or a gritty and dark back-alley where crimes go on while jazz drifts in the air.

The stakes are high in this story. An enemy pushing in from the north, family history exposed, and a band of former rivals forming a sometimes uneasy alliance to survive the coming storm.

And Max? Wow... It will take me a long time to get over this book crush.

I can't give high enough praise for this story, this series, or for Nancy Gideon's writing. It's been a long road with Max and Charlotte.

Five shining stars!

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story.
To read a compilation of all snippets posted for this story, click Here: Emmily Unbound, Chapter 1  Emmily, the main character, has lost pretty much everything in the last twelve months: her marriage, her parents, her job, and her house. She and her dog, Murphy, have moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania into an old, remote, hunting camp her parents willed to her. It's her first full day here and after a trip to town to get supplies, she's in the midst of being carjacked--or kidnapped or taken hostage--out in the boonies. One of her kidnappers demanded--help at gunpoint. They've carried a body out of the woods--she thought was a dead body. It ended with:
The injured man seems every bit as steeled to keep me away as I am to stay away from him. Judging by the looks he’s giving me.
        Now, the  snippet:

I swear under my breath as Kade comes my way. Even though he’s no longer holding his maybe-fake gun, his intense look tells me he’s not taking “no” for an answer. He says, “Get inside and drive.”
    “No.”
He says, “I… repeat…you have no choice.”  He looks inside the SUV where Murph stands watching, his tail half-tucked, the tip timidly wagging. He holds the gun up in front of me and raises his brows as he tips his head toward Murph.
“Where?” I say without a second of hesitation.
He nods toward my lane. “Your home.”

That's the snippet. A few more lines if you're interested. :-)

My heart starts racing again. They know where I live? How? Then it comes back to me—that feeling of being watched. I think about last night when I thought I saw someone vanish into the woods. I’m a fool. These criminals already staked out my place and now it’s too late.
I need to find a way to escape with Murphy. But for now, I get inside and I drive.

That's the end of Chapter 2.  I'm closer to publishing this story than I've ever been with a ms. I wrote. It's intimidating, but I'm absorbing the encouragement of fellow authors. The writing community  is such a supportive group.

I'll get there. I'm trying to write the blurb. Holy cow! This is a challenge. Any advice? :-)

Thanks so much for reading, and if you left a comment, I'll throw in a virtual hug.

Note*
I'm re-posting the bit about the relaxed rules in case I've missed anyone:
In short, the WeWriWa rules have been relaxed. The goal is to maintain ease of finding the weekly snippet, but allowing more promo for published books.  You can check them out here: http://wewriwa.blogspot.com/p/the-rules-of-wewriwa.html
We love our core group, the close-knit community that has evolved here at WeWriWa, the ease and joy of our weekly 'gathering,' but we also recognize that the time authors spend sharing and commenting has to make marketing sense, too. Time is precious.  This change would also eliminate the need for the "wonky punctuation to stay within guidelines" disclaimer.

I lean in to close the back of the SUV, and see his eyes as they fly open, wild, startled, with elongated pupils.
     Oh. My. Gawd. Animal eyes.
        Now, the  snippet:

He looks around, then his gaze settles on me. A wave of ice crawls through me, starting at my feet and working north. His expression is no longer pain, and, surprisingly, it isn’t fear. I’d be scared breathless if I were him. But no. This guy is full of anger, perhaps even hatred. His eyes narrow. His lips go from a thin line to a sneer, and he growls out words I don’t understand. I stumble back, away from the immediate threat.
Incapacitated or not, I bet he could jump right out of that blanket and make me sorrier than I already am they chose me to hold at gunpoint.

That's the snippet. A few more lines if you're interested. :-)

As much as Kade claims I have no choice, no, nope. This is not happening. The injured man seems every bit as steeled to keep me away as I am to stay away from him. Judging by the looks he’s giving me.
