This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story.
To read a compilation of all snippets posted for this story, click Here: Emmily Unbound, Chapters 1 & 2  Emmily, the main character, has lost pretty much everything in the last twelve months: her marriage, her parents, her job, and her house. She and
her dog, Murphy, have moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania into an old, remote, hunting camp her parents willed to her. On her first day there, along a desolate road she's been forced at gunpoint to haul a wounded man to her house.
This week, I'm skipping ahead a few chapters.  Emmily is making a supply run. went to the secondhand store and purchased some clothing for the group. She got a 'special' sweatshirt for General.

Last week ended with this:
Oh, and he might think the glitter is just not a good look on him either.

Anyway, the clothes are a start. Maybe these guys will be gone before they need more.

Now, the  snippet:

The grocery store is next. I didn’t have time to finish my list so Kade and I are shopping on the fly. He’s sorting through the produce. Damn,  he looks amazing in the pullover he just changed into. Dark blue. Manly. I snicker, picturing the pink shirt again. As far as Kade? He’d probably look nice in anything though. Lucky mate of his…

That's the snippet. If you'd like to read a few more to complete her thought, read on.

The working blurb for this story follows:
After losing everything that bound her to her ordinary and happy life, Emmily has one plan: move to the mountains. Oh, and never give her heart away again.
But everything goes sideways when a UFO crash-lands on the next ridge over, and on a desolate road she’s waylaid by men demanding help for their injured ‘General’. He’s confused, bleeding, and sweet Lord, good looking—even while sneering and growling at her.
Fleeing an ambush meant to kill him, Gen Rael is gravely injured when his ship crashes on Earth. The human woman his crew captures to aid them is a confounding mixture of terrified, defiant, and beautiful. A female distraction is the last thing his hindered mission can afford. But this Emmily woman is cutting through the steel wall he keeps around his heart.
Despite being their hostage, Emmily isn’t blind to the peril they’re in: there’s a threat coming from the stars, and it’s lethal to all of them, including her.
And her simple plan to never-ever fall in love again? Looks like that’s in peril too…
That's it for this week. Thank you so much for visiting and for reading. :-)

  1. Her mind is starting to move in ways that are very promising for your story!

  2. She's a goner if she thinks he looks good in anything ;-) nice snippet.

  3. Oh, I like where this is heading. :D Excellent snippet, my friend!

  4. Well she seems to be warming up to Kade at least. Was there more to the snippet? I didn't see it (and really wanted to finish her thought!). Great snippet!

  5. That lost thought of hers...oh yeah, she's a goner. ;)

  6. Are you sure she's not ending up with Kade? This whole 'alien abduction' adventure of hers is certainly going down different paths...to the grocery store LOL!

  7. Kade might look good but it's the ones we tease that we secretly like, right?

  8. They all seem to be growing on her, especially Kade. I wonder if she realizes the change in her thoughts. Great snippet!

  9. Well, her mood seems to have improved with that bit of sartorial sabotage :)

  10. Enjoyed the snippet. She definitely can't keep from thinking about possibilities of him.

  11. She seems to have an affinity for Kade.

  12. She is definitely aware of him in a more promising way of romance. :)

  13. Sometimes shopping with a companion is enjoyable. My shopping companion is my son. He's very pragmatic and cost-conscious, which is mostly good but frustrates the part of me that wants shopping to be fun.
I've never been shopping with someone that I was romantically interested in. I think it might be distracting.
The food bank gave us an 18-pound turkey, which is very generous, but it's way too much food. I was hoping it would just be a turkey breast. I'm slow-roasting it overnight on Wednesday, then my son and I will take it over to my mother's house for lunch on Thanksgiving. We're still going to have turkey for ages.

  14. Hmm, I wonder how he's feeling about her? Does he even notice her the way she's noticing him?

  15. Sounds like she isn't too distressed at being in this situation, lol
