Weekend Writing Warriors: Across the Night Sky 24

Welcome to a weekly post of Weekend Writing Warriors. If you'd like to check it out or give it a try, click here to go to wewriwa.blogspot.com

I'm working on edits for Emmily, Unbound--the book I've been sharing excerpts from for a long time. While I'm doing that, I'm going to share snippets from a WIP entitled Across the Night Sky.

This is an Alien Abduction Romance.

Marissa, abducted human, 20-something, woke with no idea where she was. After running from the metal box she woke up inside, she finds an open doorway. She stepped through and discovered she wasn't alone. She's with an injured man, Kuylerh. I'm in a new chapter, a couple pages in. *note Marissa had been injured by one of the predators.

Last week's snippet ended with:

A group of men dressed just like him, weapons at the ready, emerged out of the near darkness.

His rescue.

Surely, they wouldn’t leave the rest of them behind.

 ~*~

We pick up there:

Rissa watched six of them rush to his side. All tall and dark, all dressed for a battle a thousand years ago. They moved with such discipline, there was no mistaking each knew his part.

Two of them helped Kylerh to his feet, each under an arm. The other four formed a perimeter around him. They started moving, their hands grasping the handles of their sheathed swords. Only a few steps into their retreat, Kylerh held up a hand and said something. They stopped.

They all looked down at her. Several started shaking their heads, and she heard the word Naish followed by gibberish. Then they started moving away from her again.

A bit more if you're interested:

Kylerh stopped, but, this time, a slew of words flew from his mouth. She didn’t need to speak his language to know he’d just cussed them out. Then he turned and called her name while he motioned for her to follow.

Legs trembling when she stood, she wrapped his coat more tightly around her then took a couple steps his way. She paused to look back at the others. After calling to Kylerh, she pointed to the mother and her little son. Then she waved her arm around to encompass the entire group. She shrugged as if asking what is to become of all of them.

Kylerh spoke sharply to his rescuers, wincing as he gestured  back at the group of refugees. Then, with the same, stern tone, he said, ”Rissa!” Again, he motioned for her to follow.

Sounds like he's taking her with him whether she wants to go or not... That's it for this week. Thanks for visiting. Comments are deeply appreciated.

  1. I wonder what his chances of getting out of there without taking the whole lot of them is? Nice scene!

    1. Things are completely beyond her control. Since he got rescued, and she doesn't even know where she is or how she got there, the ball's in his court right now. If he wants to make points... Or, better yet, if he's a good person, they'll get rescued. Thanks Nancy!

  6. Like the other commenters, I hope she convinces to bring the rest with them. Hopefully, she has enough influence. Can't wait to read what's next.

  7. It would be harder to be in more trouble than she is now. I hope he tales all of them.

  9. He seems to want to take her and only her. I wonder if she'll balk at that--or if she'll be allowed to. Can't wait for more next week. I'm really hooked!
