Hello
fellow Warriors (and Snippeteers)! First, a short note about sidebar promos. :-) Sidebar promos spots are available at no cost as a perk of regularly participating in Weekend Writing Warriors. If you're interested, all we need is an email from you that includes the link to the Amazon page of the book you'd like to see on our sidebar. Our email address is: wewriwa at yahoo dot com
It's time for snips and bits of amazing writing by talented
writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week,
participants sign up HERE
at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or
unpublished, on their own blog to go live by before 9:00 AM Sunday,
EST. (We check signups to remove links when we don't find a wewriwa
post--to save our participants from clicking on empty links--so please
have it live by 9:00 Sunday morning--eastern USA). Then we visit each
other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a
solitary writer's heart good.
This week's snippet: Moving ahead in my WIP, jumping many chapters to give you a glimpse of the male MC--a very complex soul. He is alien, capable of reading minds, and Lily has just had an argument with one of his Chays (sort of like monks. They care for him and help with his task on the ship.) The argument was ugly, and Theusand disciplined his Chay upon his return to his quarters. In case you don't recall, this is Lord Sand, and no one may gaze upon his icy blue eyes without first being invited by him to do so.

"Theusand slid his hood back, revealing
ice, and then looked at Lily, seeming to study her. His expression was unreadable
and terrifying at once. “Walk with
me.”
Fear overrode Lily’s knee-jerk response to
tell him to kiss her Earth ass, too. What did it matter? He'd known it as soon as she'd thought it, and from the
look on his face, he didn’t like it one bit. She followed him out the
door.
He slowed in the hallway, motioning for
her to walk near his side. “You are not a Chay who is vowed to serve me, to be at
my beck and call, and to follow at five paces. You will walk only one
half step behind, nearly beside me.”
Wow--he is generous, huh? Only a half step behind. Bet she doesn't like that one bit. :-)
That's it for this week. What works and what doesn't? I'm
grateful for every bit of feedback you share.
That's some generosity! They must have a lot of work ahead of them to get to a decent relationship.
ReplyDeleteIt is. :-) They sure do! Thanks for visiting, Carrie-Anne! :-)
DeleteThis relationship is going to be fun to watch, Teresa! His high and Mightiness my just be put in a much lower place.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed! he has some learning to do... Thanks for visiting, Kim! Good to see you!
DeleteHow exciting for him to have an Almost walking companion. I imagine his chilly demeanor leaves him lonely.
ReplyDeleteAn "Almost walking companion..." lol. Nice! Thanks for visiting, Gem!
DeleteOh, so generous. ha. yeah, I don't see her liking that much.
ReplyDeleteNot at all, Fallon. :-) Thanks for visiting. :-)
DeleteShe may have no love for him, but he obviously holds some regard for her to allow her to walk so close to him. An intriguing snippet! :)
ReplyDeleteHe does, and it'll be the most humbling thing he's ever encountered. :-) Thanks, Jessica!
DeleteHe is definitely interested in her. More-tell us more oh mighty wench who leads us into temptation every week.. I got carried away. Hi Teresa.
ReplyDeletelol, Hi Charmaine! :-) Thank you for your kind words. :-)
DeleteWow - a whole half-a-step, huh? If she was truly not a servant the question of where she should walk wouldn't even enter the conversation :) I like the possibilities in this relationship!
ReplyDeleteSo many possibilities. :-) Thanks for stopping by, Ian.
DeleteAs he can read her mind, she's going to have to be very careful of what thoughts she allows to pass through. I hope she stands up to him.
ReplyDelete"Nearly beside him" Lol.
ReplyDeleteHer mind must be a mystery to him.
Oh gosh Your Worship, I'm sooo honored! :-) I don't blame Lily for being peeved.
ReplyDeleteThe dynamics of all this are fascinating...I'm with her, walking half a step behind isn't cool! Great snippet...
ReplyDeleteI can't see her putting up with this for very long. Can' wait to see how he deals with her temper.
ReplyDeleteOh gee, how nice of him, just a half step behind. LOL! We'll see what she has to say about that!
ReplyDeleteIndeed1 Thanks, Rose!
DeleteGotta love how he condescends toward equality!
ReplyDeleteHe's being a peach, for sure. Thanks, Ed!
DeleteFor him I'm sure this is a major concession.
ReplyDeleteHa! He has a few more of them ahead of him. :-) Thanks, Elaine!
DeleteGenerous is the key word here... But at least she's still staying awesome!
ReplyDeleteBig smile, here. Thanks, Amy! :-)
DeleteI'm intrigued to know more about this alien. I bet she won't like his generosity. lol Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteHe's complex, and deeply flawed. He really doesn't make a good alien at all when it comes right down to it. :-)Thanks, Karen!
DeleteI could see it all. Nice snippet, Teresa.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ashley!
DeleteI'll bet she doesn't like it (walking a half step behind) or him. This will make an interesting conflict. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteOh, generous indeed! Too bad he'd know if she "accidentally" stepped on his heels. I'd be tempted to do so.
ReplyDeleteWhat a big-hearted guy! NOT! Can't wait for Lily to give him his comeuppance! I love Lily!
