Weekend Writing Warriors January 20, 2019

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors

It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from my WIP, "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand--who seems to have rescued her from the slavers. His race can communicate mind to mind.  He is taking her to the "Dominion" he is from. Theusand has been eavesdropping on Lily's conversation with a woman named Leese, and just heard her say that there is no romance between her and him.  Leese speaks first. Creative punctuation ahead.

Leese made a clucking noise. "I’m not one to see something that does not exist. Search your heart.”

Lily’s thoughts were silent; she was cold. His learning opportunity was being thwarted by her discomfort.
Finally she started to mull over Leese’s words. He sensed her waver—which wasn't unexpected considering how prone she was to leaning toward perceived, shifting gravity. In a better moment, she may have professed undying affection for him, or at least close to it. Ah well… in time he was sure she would. He would make her his.

His "learning opportunity" is a creative way to look at eavesdropping, huh? That's it for this week.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and for commenting!

  1. That last statement is a bit disturbing. 'make her his'. Just how does he plan to do that?

  3. He plans to make her his, but I think time is going to be the best way to do that. She's still dealing with so much trauma.

  4. OK seriously, this dude needs to quit while he's ahead on the eavesdropping. I 'like' the way he's convincing himself that she's going to come around to his way of thinking, in terms of showing us the character depth for him or how he looks at the world...but otherwise, kind of creepy! I guess I'll wait and see because you always have surprises for us inagoodway! Loved the snippet.

  5. "Learning opportunity" is an interesting way of looking at it. Maybe it sounds more noble than simply eavesdropping, but it now sounds like deliberate spying. Not sure if that's an improvement, and it makes me think rather less of Theusand as a sympathetic character.

  6. He needs to stop listening so sneakily and start communicating with Lily and win her over that way. And I agree with Jessica, it is something that's going to take time. I hope he realizes that.

  7. He's a bit too possessive and confident for my liking and possibly Lily's. But, it's interesting to learn his perspective.

  8. He's sure she'll come around, is he? Sorry, but I'm hoping Theusand gets schooled.

  9. He needs an attitude adjustment. LOL His character arc must be fun to work with. I'm sure she'll have a lot to do with making him change.

  10. Telepathic characters are challenging to work with. My race of telepathic aliens are easily distracted. This fellow seems quite determined. He also seems to desire ownership of the object of his affections. Like Alexis, I find myself hoping that he gets schooled. :-)
Thank you for visiting at Naughty Netherworld Press.

  13. HA! I If he thinks that, he doesn't know Lily very well! :D

  14. Pretty sure of himself, isn't he? He might be in for some surprises!
