Weekend Writing Warriors January 27, 2019

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors

It's time for snips and bits of amazing tales by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.
Snippet Sunday group from facebook--not us, but many of our participants do both, can be found HERE
This week's snippet is from my WIP, "The Sands of Dhor".  Lily, abducted from Earth by alien slavers, is with Theusand--who seems to have rescued her from the slavers. His race can communicate mind to mind.  They have stopped on a world while en-route to his Dominion. They're visiting people he knows. She suspects he has some connection to them that he is keeping from her. They live in a cave system to escape detection of slavers. It's evening and their underground village is gathering. Storytime. Creative punctuation ahead.

Others wandered into the large room, hauling their own cushions and small rugs. Candles flickered on shelves carved into the rock, their amber light casting dancing shadows on dark walls and expectant faces. Children snuggled into parent’s laps, their wide-eyed faces searching the group.  From somewhere in the cave system, an animal bleated.

When everyone was seated, Elder Spense cleared his throat, “Once, our people were free. We roamed  our world, near and far, until a dark day came when we fell under the shadows of large ships sailing our skies. That is the tale of our now. For the children, first I will tell of our past.”
Lily couldn’t have turned away if she’d wanted to. It was a child’s story, much like a fairytale, but no real world could be so beautiful, so peaceful, so full of wonders.

That's it for this week.  All opinions greatly appreciated. :-) Thank you so much for visiting and for commenting!

  3. But clearly this world isn't all peacefulness. This sounds like an idealized past.

    1. It is. Elder Spense told them he would first tell a child's story about the past. :-) Thanks, Ed. :-)

    1. Nope. It didn't last. The slaver ships came and everything changed. Thanks, Diane!

  6. How wonderful she can learn more about these people and maybe about Theusand too, if there's a connection between him and these people. Can't wait to hear this story!
