Hello
fellow Warriors (and Snippeteers)! First, a short note about sidebar promos. :-) Sidebar promos spots are available at no cost as a perk of regularly participating in Weekend Writing Warriors. If you're interested, all we need is an email from you that includes the link to the Amazon page of the book you'd like to see on our sidebar. Our email address is: wewriwa at yahoo dot com
Welcome February! The month of random but huge southern snowstorms, romance--and romance writers--hearts, and chocolate, lots of chocolate. And if no one is bbuying you chocolate for the 14th, then by golly, buy yourself some. :-)
It's time for snips and bits of amazing writing by talented writers! Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly bloghop. Each week, participants sign up HERE at wewriwa.com, then post 8 to 10 sentences of their work, published or unpublished, on their own blog to go live by before 9:00 AM Sunday, EST. (We check signups to remove links when we don't find a wewriwa post--to save our participants from clicking on empty links--so please have it live by 9:00 Sunday morning--eastern USA). Then we visit each other and read, comment, critique, encourage--all those things that do a solitary writer's heart good.

This
week's snippet:
After Earth's invasion, Lily was captured by the wasp-like alien
(Bulrager) slavers. She's been subjected to a sort of alien fight-club
they have, something to kill time while they journey through space to
where they sell their slave cargo. Jobe is Lily's dog. Jean is one of
three other humans she's found so far in her large holding cell.
Jean, his girlfriend, Mirelle, and their friend, Maurice. They are from
France. The last sentence last week was: "When he came to get
her a third time, and to collect fighters, she tried as before to pass Jobe off
to Jean, but things went about as wrong as things could go." :-)
We continue from there.
We continue from there.
Rather
than the typical half-darkness the slaves endured most of the time, the lights blazed above them during ‘volunteer’ selection. No shadowy corners to hide in. Dev came their way, pausing in
front of her small group. As she started to stand, Jean barely managed to hang onto Jobe when he
snarled and lunged at the alien.
Dev’s
eyebrows pinched together while he looked toward where her dog struggled to break
free of Jean’s grasp. He pointed at the Frenchman and said, “It’s your big day.
Come with me, and bring the dog.”
Lily
moved between Dev Areen and Jobe. “Don’t take them. Take me--I’ll fight.”
Drama on end! Don't hurt the dog! Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is definitely not good. But, great snippet!
ReplyDeleteExcellent cliff hanger, Teresa. Saved? I do hope so!
ReplyDeleteWell, Dev Areen finally has what he wants. I wonder if he'll take them all. And what he'll do with them. Ah, I can't get enough of this story! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gutsy move! Well played, Teresa.
ReplyDeleteAnd now the fight. From the beginning we all anticipated this moment. Tune in next week, folks, we're on for the ride.
ReplyDeleteI hope she has some ideas on fighting.
ReplyDeleteInteresting turn of events, can't wait to see what happens next! Great snippet...
ReplyDeleteUh-oh! Cornered. Actually, you've got to admire Dev for sheer manipulative sneakiness!
ReplyDeleteWow. Talk about loving your dog. It's almost like Katniss volunteering as tribute when her sister Prim is reaped in The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteGotta save the dog! Love her loyalty, but at what cost? Great snippet.
ReplyDeletePlease Teresa, do not kill the dog!! I hope they all survive! Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else. Don't hurt Jobe!
ReplyDeleteAh! Every week I'm left hanging :) I'll be here next week, too.
ReplyDeleteOh no. Can't wait to see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteYou have us all on tenterhooks. She's a brave woman, to offer herself to save Jean and Jobe. Can't wait to find out more.
ReplyDeleteHeart in mouth ... this just goes from bad to worse. I strongly approve!
ReplyDeleteI'm really disliking these aliens!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. Not good. I don't see how she's getting out of this without a timely rescue!
ReplyDeleteGreat cliffhanger, and this makes me love her more! :D
ReplyDeleteMan, she's brave. Reminds me of Katniss in the Hunger Games. I just hope Dev takes her up on the offer. Otherwise I bet he's in for a fight. Great tension and emotion in this story, Teresa!
ReplyDeleteAnd then what happened? Sheesh, I'm really into the scene. I need the next installment. :)
