Hello

This snippet is from Emmily, Unbound, an SFR story. To read a compilation of all snippets posted for this story, click Here: Emmily Unbound, Chapters 1 & 2 Emmily, the main character, has lost pretty much everything in the last twelve months: her marriage, her parents, her job, and her house. She and her dog, Murphy, have moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania into an old, remote, hunting camp her parents willed to her. On her first day there, along a desolate road she's been forced at gunpoint to haul a wounded man to her house.
When we reach the four-lane highway outside of the county seat, he’s sitting rigid; his eyes search the surroundings.
“Kade? It’s okay. I really doubt anyone is going to threaten you.”
“Us.”
“Alright… us. No one is going to threaten us.” I check him over, then add, “By the way, we need to pick up some clothes for you guys. You look pretty bad. I should have given you a good look-over before we left; there’s blood on your shirt.”
That's the snippet. A few more lines if you're interested...
“That is a…problem?”
“Well, if you were wearing hunting clothes, no, but a uniform? It might stand out.”
“I do not know how to fix this.”
I pull into the shopping center and park next to the second time around shop. “Kade, maybe you should stay in the car. You’ll just have to trust me on this.”
“No. Even if I were willing—and I am not—Genrael would never depend on me to follow his orders again.”
It is what it is. The worst is that someone will be alarmed by his appearance and call the cops. Problem solved, at least for me.
That's the snippet.
