Six Sentence Sunday: September 1, 2012

Whew! I started to type August...       September already!

Six sentence Sunday is a great, weekly bloghop.  Talented participants post six sentences (or very close to that number) of a current writing project to share with their readers.  Then the fun begins--visiting blogs on the list and commenting on other six sentence posts.  It's a great way to meet other writers, get feedback, and help others by visiting their posts, lending ideas and support.

You can visit the list of participants by clicking here at Sixsunday.com

Returning to my WIP, ATNS, something has just happened to Marissa. Following a disorienting noise and a blinding light, she's now unsure of where she is. She's awakened and just formed the thought that her toddler son--who had been with her before her surroundings changed,  might be in danger. That thought was interrupted.

"A loud crash and screams brought her to her feet, running through what had to be some sort of a…a…metal building? God, what is this place!  How the hell did I wind up here, and why?  More screams and crashing thundered as she rounded a corner. Terror squeezed her chest. There was some sort of beast-- a very large beast, biting something in half. "

That's it for this week.

All comments  are received with gratitude, and graciously acknowledged. Thanks for visiting and don't forget to check out the many talented sixers by clicking on the link.  Have a nice week. :-)

  6. ooh, scary! I really like how you stay in her POV and voice for this. Want to know what exactly she sees around the corner: what does that beast look like, is he holding something or crouched over it on the floor? Kind of an early Halloween snippet :D

  7. ACK! I hope the beast is NOT chomping down on her son! Better than her son is screaming and the beast is protecting him but...I'm a cock-eyed optimist! ;) Great six. Lots of action, tension, and what a hook!

    1. Wow--never gave that a thought about her son...but, I can't do that, lol... Unlike Stephen King, I can't trash children to sell a story. :-) I'm guessing that your books have quite imaginative plot twists, Silver! "cock-eyed optimist!" I love it. A thing toward which to aspire, me thinks. ;-) Thanks for visiting.

  8. My mind went with Silver's, too but I knew in my heart you probably wouldn't go there! This is pretty terrifying stuff...

    2. Ha...Yep... I am just not tough enough, lol. Some things are sacred--I can't sacrifice to the god of entertainment :-) And children are on that list. :-)

You are welcome for the like, Kate! Writers...I love how we stick together and toot each others horns.

Thanks for reading and commenting :-)

    1. Confusion... Hi Carrie! The goal is to confuse the reader, just a bit--not enough to have them set the book down and forget about it. :-) But enough to intrigue and make them wonder. It is such a fine line, though. lol... Oy! The travails of writing. :-) Thanks for visiting. :-)

  13. Teresa - wow! What a blood-curdling scenario-
I'm surprised that my mind went to that same dark place as Silver's...woooho sweats!! How come I always expect the worst? I'd rather be an optimistic reader! ;) This is excellent, the way you grab the reader and pull him right in! Terrific action!

    1. Hey, Dana :-) As we say here in the states, "Waiting for the other shoe to drop." I'm not necessarily an optimistic reader, either. I wonder how that affects our writing??? Ha! There are always more questions than there are answers.

      Thanks for visiting, dearie. :-)

    1. Thanks, Karen... Yep, pulling from an action scene and cutting it into six sentence posts makes just about every week a cliffhanger. I find it useful for really examining small snippets, though. I'm glad you stopped by. I didn't forget about the award you gave me. Just trying to fit it all in. :-)

    1. Hey Daddy Drool, :-) Thanks for giving this a read. :-) lol...I can't bring myself to trash babies and children for the sake of a story. Nevah! :-) For six sentence Sunday, the rules are here: http://www.sixsunday.com/faqs/ I think as long as your work fits within those guidelines, it should be fine. It is a nice group of people who participate. I haven't seen poetry, mostly fiction. If you are unsure, there is contact information at the sixsunday.com--and you can ask one of the admins. Hope to see you one of these Sundays! :-)
