Six Sentence Sunday 4/22/12

Out of the same book as last week, Gracie is in labor. It is now late in the afternoon, and she has been at this since the night before.  This is a description of a contraction.  Does it work?

"Inside the room that held agony and expectation, Gracie was not even aware of who was now near to her.  The pain came in waves, one after the other.  She was climbing up a hill, higher, higher, and higher.  There she was suspended, soundless, mindless, then the pain became her and she became the pain; they were inseparable.  There was nothing else—save for the twisted half-pain creature she had become… and then she was coming down the hill, down, down, down.

Be sure to check out other #SixSunday posts!  Thanks for giving this a read.

    1. Hi Yvonne, Thanks for visiting. It is happenstance that the s-word coincided with this post :-)

  3. That's pretty close. Based on the waves coming one after another I'd say she's in second stage labor, which won't last too long, unless it's her first delivery. Am I right?

  4. You always do such a great job with the Sunday Six, Teresa! A really haunting scenario. I have no idea what being in labor feels like. How many stages are there?
    Is she in second?

    1. Hi Dana :-) Thank you. Well, there are 3 stages, and each stage is further divided into phases. She is very close to the birth in this snippet.

Labor is a strange thing. And you know, it is amazing that women go on to have a second child--or a third... Labor hurts, but here and now, I can't recall the intensity of the pain. And it has been that way since the day after each of my children were born. But, with my second, I recall very objectively analyzing the stages I went through while I was going through them. He was the biggest, but the easiest. I don't know why. My first, I swore I was going to die. I actually said it out loud during labor. With my third (and last), I just felt like I was going to die--but knew better. :-) All so worthwhile....

ps. Thank you so much Teresa for your lovely comment, I'm also hoping all further dates will be great, I have a good feeling about it, that it will be.

I found the problem why there was no comment link, wrong settings, I only needed to repost it again to solve it.
